Our Story
Hello from Cincinnati, Ohio -
My name is Ellen, and I am the current President of SCREENEZE®, a division of Home Improvement Systems, Inc. While I am not the owner or the inventor, as the employee with the greatest longevity, I consider myself a steward of SCREENEZE®, and I’d love to share our story.
Let’s rewind to the early 2000s, when Ray Bass, a resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, found himself frustrated by the shortcomings of a popular field-built screening system used for enclosing traditional wood-framed porches. The system had failed repeatedly, leaving him determined to find a better solution.
Ray tinkered, experimented, and innovated until he created something groundbreaking—the product we now know as SCREENEZE®. Its reliability and functionality promised to revolutionize porch design and construction. However, Ray needed support to bring his vision to life.
Enter David Seuberling, a seasoned homebuilder from Cincinnati, Ohio. With 35 years of experience, David recognized the potential of SCREENEZE®. He saw how it could transform the way porches were built—making them more durable, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing. That’s when it all began. David, along with me—Ellen, his daughter—set out on a mission. Our goal was clear: focus on one thing—providing the best screen porch solution to contractors and homeowners across the country.
SCREENEZE® became more than just a product; it became a legacy. Its unique features—durability, ease of installation, and innovative design—set it apart. Contractors appreciate its cost-effectiveness, and homeowners embrace the value it adds to their homes.
When Dave was ready to retire, he was committed to finding the right successor—one who would honor the brand, preserve the team and culture, and support continued growth and longevity. He succeeded. In 2025, the Lovell family of Grand Rapids, Michigan acquired SCREENEZE®. This transition—from the Seuberling family to the Lovell family—has continued, and will continue, the legacy of the brand and its people, just as Dave had hoped.
It gives me true joy to continue to manufacture, market, and sell our SCREENEZE® branded products because I know the extreme value they bring to our distribution network as well as to builders and homeowners alike. I am also thrilled that SCREENEZE® remains family owned and operated as we grow with you into the future.
Sincerely,
Ellen Seuberling Stratmann
